![]() David Simcock Simcock, 37, has found the winner’s enclosure with increasing regularity and there have been a clutch of high-profile successes – not least that of Darley Sun in the 2009 Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Champions’ Day. Simcock’s charge gave him his biggest racecourse triumph when justifying favouritism with an emphatic win in one of the sport’s most renowned and valuable handicaps. The victory capped a career-best season for Simcock and his Trillium Place Stables’ team. Ascot provided the setting for their other peak with both Ahla Wasahl and Spirit Of Dubai registering stakes wins inside 24 hours at the Berkshire course’s prestigious September meeting. If Newmarket and Ascot provided the great days, there were a host of other satisfying occasions as Simcock achieved his highest tally of winners for a year as well as record prize money. The 2008 campaign saw him hit his 30-winners target and that was convincingly surpassed in a 2009 as the target of 40 winners for the year was hit by mid-November. The other point to note was that the Simcock string has amassed prize money totalling over of £500,000. Simcock began his career as pupil assistant to Ian Balding and then moved to Lambourn where he enjoyed a stint in the employ of the legendary Major Dick Hern. Simcock completed his learning curve with a spell as assistant trainer to Luca Cumani in Newmarket , coming into contact with stars such as Falbrav and Gossamer. David and his wife Jennie set up on their own in 2004 with just 10 horses but since then the duo have not stopped going from strength-to-strength. David’s professionalism and ability soon got him noticed and his string swelled to over 70 in 2009. These are exciting times for all at Trillium Place and everything is in place for the forward momentum to continue through 2010 and beyond. |
