FIRST City maintained the hot streak of the David Simcock team with a hard-fought success at Newbury this afternoon.
The Diktat filly has run plenty of good races but hadn't prevailed since her debut two years ago. With some 'black type' already to her name, she further boosted her paddock potential with this second caeer success. First City, ridden by Hayley Turner, raced widest of all on the far side in the 1m fillies' handicap. And she showed her guts when engaging in a spirited tussle with Gobama through much of the closing two furlongs. She gave a slight bump to her rival close to the line but survived a subsequent stewards' enquiry to triumph at odds of 8/1 by a neck. Turner said: "She relaxed into the race nicely and was always travelling well. "I thoguht she might win it comfortably but she had to battle and is a tough filly, having to carry top weight as well." The all-round well-being of the Trillium Place horses was confirmed with stablemate What's Up Pussycat finishing third in the same race. |
