Our Approach

We seek to combine a warm welcome with a very professional approach at Trillium Place. Owners are welcome to visit at any time and we hope that the high standards we demand of ourselves and staff will be immediately evident.

We’ve always believed the importance of identifying objectives with each horse that comes under our care. When those goals have been set, we aim to build towards them, supported by an infrastructure that that allows for individual attention to detail. This could result in specialist exercise regimes, feeds and equipment.

We’ve also long held the belief that every victory matters to the yard. Of course, every owner and trainer dreams of success at the highest level. But only very few horses are capable of competing in Group company, let alone winning those type of races. We fully realise this and work hard to ensure that every horse under our care maximises his or her potential, whether that be success at stakes or seller level.

Objectives can also vary, according to what an owner wishes for from his investment.

For instance, the aim could be to earn maximum prize money even if that means not winning races, instead by competing in valuable handicaps. For owner-breeders, the gaining of ‘black type’ for a filly can often be a priority. Some owners like going to big meetings just to have a runner, some owners like horses to be placed to ultimately maximize resale value. Whatever that objective might be, we will try to achieve it.

One of David’s often-quoted phrases is how it is important ‘to keep raising the bar’. This reflects our overall approach to the business and is not just illustrated by our year-on-year increase in terms of winners. Take, also, the considerable investment in our yard, which has greatly improved its utility. The boxes are well-lit and airy, while we have tightened all-round security with CCTV and electric gates.
