Sheikhzayedroad wins at Meydan

16 January 2014

SHEIKHZAYEDROAD enhanced his growing reputation with a super display at Meydan today, scoring in a valuable handicap.
The five-year-old kept up trainer David Simcock's fine reputation at the World Cup Carnival when he passed just about all his rivals to strike with conviction in the mile and a quarter race.
It was his first run overseas and what a performance he gave in the hands of jockey Martin Lane.
Sheikhzayedroad was held up at the rear of the 12-runner field for most of the opening mile before easily travelling into contention.
He had Tha'ir in his sights entering the final furlong and surged ahead inside the final 100 yards, eventually pulling up the winner by a length and a quarter.
It was a stirring effort from the son of Dubawi, who has now won three of his last seven starts - only finishing outside the three on one of those occasions.
The Carnival should hold further opportunities for Sheikhzayedroad and hopefully there will be more to come from him.
As for the on-song Trillium Place team, they have now had a winner each of the last four days!
