David reflects on Sheikhzayed’s triumph

17 January 2014

IT has been an excellent week for the Trillium Place team with a series of ‘home’ wins – and an international success at the 2014 World Cup Carnival in Dubai.
Sheikhzayedroad’s impressive success yesterday on his bow at the 2014 World Cup Carnival has undoubtedly been the highlight of a rewarding few days.
He stormed to a length and a quarter victory at Meydan in a 10-furlong handicap.
Simcock said: “He was in good order, pretty fit and it was a very pleasing result. It was a pleasant surprise in the fact that really he needs a mile and a half.
“The way the race was run and the dream run we had up the rail was realistically what made all the difference.”
The signs are that Sheikhzayedroad has come out of the race fine and his next engagement will be in just under four weeks time.
David added: “He has taken it all very well. We will step straight up to a mile and a half now on February 13. That has always been the plan and it is where we think he is best.
“Unfortunately, he is likely to be off 110, which makes life very difficult. Winning handicaps off 110 doesn’t happen very often.”
Simcock has also sent out a domestic winner on each of the first four days of the week.
Modernism provided the latest success, taking an extended nine-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton last night. It was Modernism’s third win in five starts since the end of October.
