Double delight on the sand

09 February 2014

NOBLE Citizen completed a three-timer on the Southwell sand with success under apprentice Georgean Buckell this afternoon – and Tigers In Red went on to make it double delight for trainer David Simcock.
Noble Citizen has produced a stunning hot streak in the last four weeks after enduring a win-less run that stretched back to the summer of 2011.
But trainer David Simcock’s nine-year-old charge has found a new lease of life on the artificial surface and has found a willing ally in 7lb claimer Buckell.
The 5/2 shot was dropped out at the rear in the early exchanges in today’s mile handicap before making stealthy progress through the middle part of the race.
Noble Citizen came to collar Sound Advice with over a furlong to run and proceeded to coast home a comfortable four-length winner.
Just 35 minutes later and Simcock introduced a Speightstown colt in the shape of Tigers In Red.
Contesting a seven-furlong maiden with Liam Keniry riding, Tigers In Red could hardly have done it better.
He travelled just in behind the leading duo before bursting through to lead with over a furlong left to run.
Moonlight Venture tried to put up some late resistance but Tigers In Red, kept up to his work by Keniry, won nicely by two and a half lengths.
