Steady Major in deserved Southwell success

11 February 2015

STEADY Major broke his duck with victory in a mile maiden at Southwell yesterday.

The Invincible Spirit gelding wasn't winning before time, having finished second on three of his starts.
In a four-runner race, Steady Major sat close to the long-time leader Dark Diamond before being asked to assert by jockey Martin Lane with a quarter of a mile to run.
Trainer David Simcock's charge hit the front inside the final furlong but Dark Diamond wouldn't go down without a fight.
The pair battled it out gamely through the closing strides but it was the Trillium Place runner, owned by the Tick Tock Partnership who returned the 5/4 winner by a neck.
