The Corsican in Group 3 strike

19 September 2015

THE CORSICAN gave trainer David Simcock an excellent Group 3 triumph at Newbury this afternoon.

Mr and Mrs Hay's four-year-old is enjoying a most progressive campaign and today he went one better than the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood on July 31.
It was his fifth win in nine starts and showed that he is still very much on the upgrade.
Jockey Jamie Spencer had The Corsican on the heels of the leader and odds on favourite Eagle Top through the first mile of the 11-furlong contest.
Then, with a quarter of a mile to go, the Trillium Place horse loomed up to seize control and never looked back.
He stayed on well through the closing stages to beat Sky Hunter by a length and a half and book his spot in the Group 1 Champion Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot next month.
David said: "No question in my mind he's better at a mile and a quarter. We'll go for the pot."
